This is a week long taster course for those considering a career in Interior Design and is intended to give an overview of the work of a professional designer. During the week you will develop your design skills and gain an insight into the work of an interior designer and an understanding of the skills required for a career in this exciting industry.
We start with the first client meeting. A successful project is impossible without a good client brief. It is the blueprint for your design. You will learn to take a brief, and design a specific project using the information gathered at the briefing. We will consider the effects of colour and light and some basic lighting techniques. You will learn to draw floor plans to scale and plan a furniture layout observing key design principles.
Working on colour concepts and the principles of colour and proportion in a given space, you will explore combining fabrics with different textures and the interplay of surfaces against each other. All students will produce a professional sample board for their project which, together with floor plans and furniture layouts will be the start of your portfolio.
If you are considering a career in Interior Design, this course acts as an excellent catalyst to kick start your training programme. Please note, homework is an integral part of this course. A certificate will be awarded on satisfactory completion of this course. Students who go on to enrol on the Diploma course will be eligible for a discounted fee, subject to terms and conditions. See pricelist for details.
